MU Women's Soccer Advances to MAC Freedom Title Match

The #16 nationally ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team defeated Arcadia, 3-0, in the MAC Freedom Semifinals, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

The top-seeded Cougars advanced to Saturday's MAC Freedom Championship game.

Haleigh Wintersteen, Caelan Gallagher and Lily Heistand all scored for the Cougars and Lauren Mondor picked up three saves to earn the shutout.  Olivia Maniskas and Esabella Mendola had assists.

After a scoreless first half, took a 1-0 lead early in the second half when Wintersteen converted a PK at 51:15.

The Cougars doubled their advantage less than 10 minutes later. Maniskas rolled a pass to Mendola on the right post where she centered to Gallagher in front, where she tapped it to make it 2-0 at 59:30.

Misericordia put up its third goal at 74:54, with Heistand striking a ball from 25 yards out for a 3-0 leads.

Misericordia earned its first opportunity when Mendola struck a shot that went just wide left at 4:19.   They had another great chance a minute later when, but Maniskas' chip shot was just high.

The Cougars kept up the pressure with a deflected shot from Evans that produced a diving save at the right post in the eighth minute.

Evans had another chance late in the half when her low strike produced a diving save by the  Arcadia goalkeeper in the 29th minute.

Ella Cipriani made a quick pass to Gallagher at 63:27, but her shot was denied by another diving save.

Julia Hayward's shot was stopped on another diving save for Arcadia at 74:07.

The Cougars will host Stevens in the MAC Freedom title match.
