The Misericordia University women's soccer team had its streak of four consecutive MAC Freedom championships snapped with a 3-0 loss to Stevens, Saturday evening at Mangelsdorf Field.
The first half was a defensive battle between the two defensive-minded teams as each only allowed five shots.
The Cougars first shot came early in the half as they just missed high on a
Haleigh Wintersteen's header off a corner kick in the second minute.
Stevens came down soon after and attempted a shot of their own which was stopped by
Lauren Mondor in the seventh minute.
The Ducks slotted a shot through two MU defenders just inside the right post for a 1-0 leads at 8:46.
The Cougars attempted to get on the board late in the first half with a shot from
Ella Cipriani, but the Stevens goalie made the stop.
Cipriani and
Lily Heistand combined for three shots on goal in a five-minute span, but all three attempts were denied.
MU had another opportunity to even the score, but
Olivia Maniskas' shot missed just left of the post with eight minutes left in the half.
In the second half the Ducks started it off on the offensive once again, taking the first shot which was saved by Mondor, but the Ducks capitalized on the ensuing corner for a 2-0 lead at 50:45.
Maniskas' shot from outside the top left corner of the box was saved near the right post.
Caelan Gallagher found an opportunity at the goal, but missed just wide of the right post in the 71st minute.
Stevens clinched the win with a final goal in the 82nd minute.
Misericordia is 15-4-1 and will await a potential at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
