Jared Piontkowski had 25 kills to lead the Misericordia University men's volleyball team to a five-set win over New Paltz, Tuesday night on Doc Mould Court.
Piontkowski added four blocks and three aces and
Anthony DePalma had nine kills. Â
Joe Kozak had seven kills and five blocks and
Benjamin Clendening had five blocks.
Gannon DeFrain had 46 assists.
New Paltz took the opener, 25-21, but MU rallied to win the second set, 25-21.
Piontkowski's kill broke a 7-7 tie and the Cougars never trailed again.
Another Piontkowski kill gave the Cougars a 21-18 lead and kills by
Thomas Young and DePalma closed out the set.
After New Paltz took the third set, Misericordia stayed alive with a 25-23 win in the fourth set.
Piontkowski had two kills and a block to fuel a 5-2 run and a 19-16 lead.
Down 5-3 in the finale, the Cougars responded in a big way with eight straight points to take an 11-5 lead.
The Hawks pulled to within 13-11, but Piontkowski and DePalma both had kills to close out the match.
