MU Women Lose at DeSales

The Misericordia University women's basketball team dropped its final road game of the season, 68-41, Tuesday night at DeSales.

Jocelyn Grosch scored a team-high 17 points, hitting two shots from behind the arc.

Morgan Janeski led the Cougars on the glass with eight rebounds.

Ava Cirigliano shot 5-6 from the free throw line.

Grosch hit a jumper less than three minutes into the contest to put Misericordia on the board. She continued to work on the offensive end of the floor, getting a bucket in the paint to pull the Cougars within one point of DeSales. The Bulldogs led 6-5 with just over six minutes remaining in the opening quarter.

Grosch picked up an offensive board and banked in a shot, drawing a foul in the process. She hit her shot from the stripe to complete the 'and one' to tie the game, 8-8.

Emily Romanowski got in on the action with a layup to give the Cougars their first lead of the game with 3:18 to go in the first frame.

With two seconds left in the quarter, Grosch hit yet another shot to keep Misericordia knotted with the Bulldogs, 15-15.

DeSales opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run that was stopped with a tip-in layup by Janeski.

Misericordia continued to battle through the end of the first half and exited the floor only down by five, 32-27.

Early in the third quarter, Cirigliano drew a shooting foul and cashed in on both of her shots to cut the deficit six.
After a DeSales run later in the third, Grosch knocked down a three-pointer to stop the bleeding. Samantha Casey scored on a layup with 17 seconds left as the Cougars trailed by 10 heading into the final ten minutes of regulation.

Alina Torchia and Landgraf hit layups early on in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs had an answer for every MU push and held on to win, 61-48.

Misericordia will host Senior Day against King's in the season finale, Saturday at 1:00.
