MU Hockey Wraps Up Inaugural Season

The Misericordia University hockey team dropped its final game of the 2024-25 season to Keene State, 5-2, on Senior Appreciation Day at the Toyota SportsPlex.

Prior to the game, Dom Della Civita, John Barrett, Zach Ross, Nicholas Solema, Eric Honold, Jacob Perrin and Anthony Shrum were all honored as the first graduating class in program history.

Abraham Laggis and Jonathan Lush scored for the Cougars.

Down 3-0 after one period, Laggis cut the Cougars' deficit down to two in the second period, stuffing the puck through a pile of bodies at 7:39 of the second period. Zach Ross and Brendan Vettraino assisted on the 3-1 marker.

Just under three minutes later, Misericordia struck again when Lush fired a laser of a shot past the goaltender from the point to bring MU within one goal of tying the game. Jack Tos and Zachary Micciche picked up helpers on the play at 10:24 of the second.

Perrin saw his first action of the afternoon in goal at 1:49 of the first period, turning aside a shot to keep the game scoreless.

Keene State continued to apply pressure and scored at 4:41 to take a 1-0 lead. The Owls quickly doubled their lead with another goal at 6:36.

The Cougars attempted to respond as Jaron Ketterman, Eric Kotkowski and Lush all sent shots towards goal following the 2-0 marker.

Keene State scored once again at 10:57 and took a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Owls headed to the game's first power play at 11:09, however two blocks by Lush and a save by Perrin killed the penalty and kept the game within reach for MU. Keene State took its 3-0 advantage into the first intermission.

The Misericordia penalty kill unit was called back into action just 1:23 into the second period and was successful once again, not allowing a single shot to reach Perrin.

During a string of solid puck possession in the offensive zone, the Cougars rattled off six consecutive shots. Following a rebound in the crease, several players crashed the net attempting to jam the puck home. Laggis got his stick on the puck before the Owls' netminder could freeze the play and lit the lamp to make it a 3-1 contest. Ross and Vettraino assisted on Laggis' second of the season at 7:39.

MU cut their deficit down to one goal less than three minutes later, as a speedy zone entry by Micciche resulted in a scramble in front of the net. Tos collected the puck on the wing and sent a pass toward the blue line to Lush, who rifled a wrist shot past the goalie for his second of the season. Tos and Micciche were credited with assists on the 3-2 goal at 10:24 of the middle frame.

The Owls responded with a goal at 19:03 to take a 4-2 lead, which they held through the final 57 seconds of the period.

Misericordia dominated play for the majority of the third period, outshooting Keene State 30-9 in the final 20 minutes of regulation.
