Stevenson used a big second period to break open a tied game on the way to a 6-2 win over the Misericordia University hockey team, Friday night at the Toyota SportsPlex.
The Mustangs scored on three of five power play opportunities, including two in the second period.
Tied 2-2 after one period, Stevenson scored twice in the first 5:08 of the second period and added another with less than three minutes left in the period.
Stevenson scored early in the third period to extend the lead to 6-2.
Nicholas Solema and
Ryan Karbach scored goals for the Cougars while
Zach Ross and
Brendan Vettraino added assists.
Solema forced a turnover deep in the Stevenson zone and scored unassisted from the right face-off circle to give MU a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the game.
After Stevenson scored twice in a five-minute span to take a 2-1 lead midway through the opening period, the Cougars pulled even with less than a minute remaining.
Ross carried the puck into the Stevenson zone where he found Vettraino who the slot who fed Karbach for a one-timer under the crossbar from the left circle.
Antoine Robidoux made 34 saves in his first start of the season.
The Cougars will host Alvernia in their Hometown Heroes game, Saturday at 7:00.
