Shook Lifts MU Women's Lax Over Alvernia

Rachel Shook and Delaney Campanella combined for eight goals as the Misericordia University women's lacrosse team picked up its second-straight win, defeating Alvernia 13-6 in their cross-conference matchup at Mangelsdorf Field, Wednesday afternoon.

Shook and Campanella both completed hat tricks as the duo scored five and three goals, respectively.

Ashtyn Torbert found the back of the cage and added two assists for a three-point performance. Adison Harner, Melanie Carbo, Alicia Pileggi and Madison Hushon rounded out the scoring for MU with a goal apiece.

Goalkeeper Ryann Gross made seven saves and led the team with three ground balls while Shook collected a team-high nine draw controls.

With the game tied 3-3 early in the second quarter, the Cougars rattled off nine unanswered goals to take a commanding 12-3 lead.

Shook opened the scoring with back-to-back goals as Misericordia took a 2-0 lead with 5:56 remaining in the first quarter.

After the Golden Wolves got on the board, Harner scored with 2:51 left in the first frame to restore the two-goal advantage.

A pair of Alvernia goals tied the game at 3-3, however Torbert ripped a shot into the back of the net at 12:45 of the second quarter to reclaim the lead. MU led for the remainder of the game.

Torbert found the scoresheet again, assisting on Campanella's first goal of the game at 9:13. Shook netted her third goal of the night to complete the hat trick while Pileggi, Hushon and Carbo all recorded goals before the end of the half. The Cougars maintained a 9-3 lead through 30 minutes of play.

The Golden Wolves were awarded a free position shot just 1:01 into the third quarter, but Gross turned aside the shot to preserve the 9-3 lead.

Campanella opened the scoring in the second half  with her second goal of the game at 9:52. Shook followed up with her fourth of the day when she hit the twine at 4:44. Harner picked up an assist on the 11-3 marker. 

Alvernia was assessed a yellow card at 4:44, sending Misericordia to a man-up opportunity. Campanella took advantage of the extra player and scored her third goal of the game at 3:41, marking the Cougars' ninth straight goal.

The Golden Wolves put up three goals in the fourth quarter, but Shook delivered a dagger with her fifth goal of the afternoon with 54 seconds to go.
