The Misericordia University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader, 2-1, 4-1, Wednesday afternoon at Penn State Berks.
Marisa Kelly and
Morgan Kelly combined on a two-hitter in the opener and
Sienna Lawson and
Gabby Cruz combined on a four-hitter in game two.
Ma. Kelly worked five innings to earn the win and Mo. Kelly struck out six in two perfect innings to get the save.
Kiersten Tinio and
Emily Susanj both had RBI-doubles.
In game two, Lawson worked four shutout innings and Cruz threw three innings to get the save.
Casey Funesti had three hits and
Bridget Doherty and
Gianna Russo both had two hits.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning of game one. Mackenzie singled and stole second before coming home on Tinio's two-out double to left center.
The Lions tied it in the bottom of the third and the Cougars plated the game-winning run in the top of the sixth.
Funesti led off with a single to left and pinch-runner
Savannah Richards moved up on Tinio's sacrifice before coming home on Susanj's double to right field.
In game two, the Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the third.
Doherty singled up the middle with one out and stole second. Russo's two-out single down the right field line gave the Cougars the lead. Sienna Miller doubled down the left field line to make it 2-0. Fizer singled through the left side to extend the lead to 3-0.
Misericordia added an insurance run in the fourth. Funesti doubled with one out and scored on
Mikayla Sasuk's single.
