The Misericordia University baseball team won both games of their Senior Day doubleheader against FDU-Florham, 6-3 and 7-5, Sunday afternoon at Tambur Field.
In the opener,
Brock Bollinger had three RBI on two doubles.
Josh Burger and
Owen Daminger drove in one run apiece.
Jack Regenye swiped a pair of bases.
Bryan Henry advanced to 6-2 on the season, only allowing one earned run through six innings.
In the second game,
Gabe Bunn hit an RBI triple while
Jared Hoffman had an RBI and two doubles.
Bollinger,
Brooks Kanwisher and
Jake McDonough had one RBI each. Regenye led the team with three hits and two runs.
Evan Wittig picked up his second win while
Max Oliver earned his first save of the season, striking out two batters in two innings.
Burger opened the scoring in the second inning of the first game with a sacrifice bunt that scored
Brian Korchok from third, giving MU a 1-0 lead.
After the Devils tied things up in the third, Bollinger laced a double down the right field line to score Regenye and give the Cougars a 2-1 lead. Three at-bats later, the designated hitter came around to score on a wild pitch. Daminger then reached on a throwing error that allowed Korchok to cross the plate for the second time in two innings. After three complete innings, MU led, 4-1.
Misericordia took a four-run lead in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Bollinger that scored Kanwisher from third.
FDU put up a run in the sixth to bring themselves back within three runs of tying the ballgame. In the bottom frame, Bollinger ripped another double down the line, this time down the left field chalk. Kanwisher scored easily from third as MU restored its four-run lead, which now stood at 6-2.
The Devils added a run in the seventh, but Daminger was able to shut the door and close out the 6-3 victory for the Cougars.
Between games, Bollinger, Bunn, Burger, Hoffman,
Jeff Policarpio, Oliver, Regenye,
Steve Rinda and
Dante Viola were all honored as the nine seniors graduating from Misericordia after this season.
FDU-Florham came out of the gates strong with two runs in the first inning of game two.
MU got one run back in the bottom frame, courtesy of a single to center field by McDonough that scored Regenye from second.
The Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the second, as
Owen Cordner took off from second base and ended up scoring as a result of a throwing error on the steal attempt.
Bunn shifted momentum firmly in Misericordia's favor in the third with a triple to right-center that scored Daminger all the way from first base. After taking its first lead of the ballgame, MU added an insurance run on a Hoffman double to left-center as Bunn scored easily from third. After three innings, the Cougars led, 4-2.
FDU was able to knot the game up at 4-4 in the top of the fourth. The Devils then reclaimed a one-run lead in the seventh.
Bollinger's bat continued its hot streak in the bottom half of the inning. The catcher singled to right-center, allowing two runs to cross the plate as MU found itself back on top, 6-5.
Kanwisher tacked on another run in the bottom of the eighth with a single up the middle that scored Hoffman from third, giving Misericordia a 7-5 lead.
Oliver shut down the FDU offense with a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth as the Cougars wrapped up the 7-5 win. MU took the regular season series with the Devils, two games to one.
Misericordia hits the road to take on Susquehanna in a non-conference showdown, Tuesday at 3:30.
