The Misericordia University women's volleyball team picked up its first win ever over the University of Scranton to salvage a split at the Scranton Invitational, Saturday.
After dropping a 3-0 decision to William Smith in the opener, the Cougars rallied for a 3-2 win over the host Royals in the nightcap.
Meghan Peters had 18 kills and three aces to fuel the win over Scranton while
Jenna Schuda added 47 assists and five aces.
Maggie Duda had a team-high 25 digs and was named to the all-tournament team. And
Keira McCaffrey had a team-high seven blocks.
Down 2-1 and trailing 23-20 in the fourth set against Scranton, Peters sandwiched a pair of kills around a Schuda ace to pull MU even.
McCaffrey and
Rachel LoFaso combined for a block and
Lily Andersen followed with an ace to close out a 28-26 win.
Cassandra Genduso's kill broke a 4-4 tie in the clincher and the Cougars never trailed again.
LoFaso and Peters had back-to-back kills and the Cougars took advantage of three Scranton miscues to close on a 5-1 run to win 15-8.
In the opener against William Smith,
Sarah Steeber had a team-high seven kills and Duda had 11 digs.
The Herons used an 8-0 run to break a 12-12 tie on the way to a 25-20 win in the opening set. Peters had a kill and an ace in a late 5-0 spurt for the Cougars.
William Smith never trailed in a 25-18 win in the second set.
Two kills by Schuda got the Cougars within 13-12 in the finale, but the Herons closed on a 12-3 run to win 25-15.
