The seventh-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team picked up its second straight win with a 2-0 victory at Washington College, Sunday evening in Chestertown, Md.
The Cougars scored early in each half to capture the first-ever meeting between the two schools to improve to 2-0.
Haleigh Wintersteen and Lily Heistand scored for MU while Esabella Mendola added an assist.
Wintersteen stepped in front of a Shorewomen pass that resulted in an MU throw deep in the Washington end early in the first half.
Wintersteen's throw-in to Mendola was played back to her in the left corner where she placed a lofted shot into the upper right corner inside the far post at 4:28.
The score held for the remainder of the first half as both teams managed six shots over the first 45 minutes of play.
Mendola nearly added a goal of her own in the opening minutes of the second half when she chipped a shot just over the crossbar at 47:33.
Heistand added the insurance goal when her shot from the left flank deflected off a defender into the right corner of the net at 59:52.
The Cougars controlled the play the rest of the way as they out shot the Shorewomen, 8-1, in the second half.
Lauren Mondor made one save to post her second straight shutout.
