The Misericordia University women's volleyball team split a tri-match on a historic for senior setter
Jenna Schuda.
The Cougars claimed a five-set win over New Paltz in the opener, but dropped the nightcap to William Paterson, 3-0.
Schuda had 17 assists against Paterson to become MU's all-time leader with 3,161 assists.
Keira McCaffrey turned a dominant performance against New Paltz with 10 kills, six blocks and four aces in the 25-10, 22-25, 25-13, 20-25, 15-12 win.
Schuda had 29 assists and 15 digs as did
Maggie Duda.
The Cougars raced out to an 8-0 lead and were never challenged in the opening set.
New Paltz rallied from a 22-20 deficit to score five straight points to win the second set.
MU broke open a close game with an 11-2 run to close the third set.
After New Paltz stayed alive, the Cougars broke a 12-12 tie in the finale with three straight points, including an ace by
Meghan Peters and a kill by
Cassandra Genduso to cap the win.
The Cougars dropped the finale, 25-22, 25-23, 25-13.
In addition to Schuda's 17 assists, McCaffrey had eight kills and three aces and Duda had 15 digs.
Paterson jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opening set, but the Cougars clawed back as Peters and Genduso sandwiched kills around Schuda's ace to get within 20-18.
McCaffrey's kill and a Paterson error cut the margin to 24-22, but an MU error ended the set.
The Cougars took a 19-16 lead on another kill from McCaffrey, but Paterson responded with seven straight points on the way to a 25-23 win.
The Pioneers used a 10-0 to take a 17-5 lead in the closing set.
