The Misericordia University hockey team picked up its second win of the season with a 5-0 victory over Lebanon Valley, Friday night at HersheyPark Arena.
Corbin Scheibel scored twice to lead a four-goal outburst in the third period.
William Moran added a goal and an assist and
Jack Tos and
Jaron Ketterman added goals.
Mason Jones made 33 saves in net to earn the shutout.
After nearly 40 minutes of scoreless hockey, Moran gave MU the lead with a power play goal late in the second period.
Patrick Toomey centered a pass to
James Eng at the point and he played the puck to
Marko Petras in the right face-off circle. Petras' slap shot was deflected in front by Moran to give MU a 1-0 lead at 17:58.
Scheibel made it 2-0 midway through the second period when he jammed home a rebound off
Colin Stow's wrister from just inside the blue line.
Tos and the Cougars used a 3-on-1 break to take a 3-0 lead less than a minute later. Tos skated down the right side and centered a pass to
Brendan Vettraino who played the puck to Tos who stuffed a shot inside the right post at 11:21.
Scheibel tacked on an empty-net goal from his own blue line to give MU a 4-0 lead at 19:14.
The Cougars closed out the scoring just 22 seconds left when
Ethan Hollingsworth played a puck from the left face-off circle to Ketterman where he flipped a shot inside a wide-open net for the final margin of 5-0.
MU will return to HersheyPark Arena, Saturday at 4:00.
