Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

MU Women Cruise at King's

The Misericordia University women's basketball team earned an 80-60 victory at King's, Wednesday evening.
 
Morgan Janeski led the Cougars with 19 points while Caitlin Landgraf added 18 and Emily Romanowski chipped in 10 points and six steals.
 
Romanowski opened the game for the Cougars with a steal at midcourt and converted the layup on the fastbreak to give Misericordia a 2-0 lead.
 
On the next possession, Lizzy Mitchell dished it to Janeski who nailed a three-pointer from the right wing.
 
The Cougars kept the momentum rolling as Landgraf converted a layup from the left block, followed by another Janeski three-pointer from the right wing.
 
With a little under five minutes left in the first quarter, Chase Purdy drove through the lane and laid it in to increase the lead to double digits at 16-5.
 
Landgraf found Janeski on the right block for a quick layup as the Cougars went up 22-8 at the end of the first.
 
Misericordia kept its hot shooting rolling in the second quarter as Romanowski cashed in a three-pointer from the top of the key, sparking a 13-5 run over the next six minutes.
 
With the Cougars leading 40-17 late in the second quarter, Purdy knocked down a three-pointer from the top of the key.
 
Romanowski converted another three-pointer just before the buzzer to send Misericordia into halftime with a 48-21 advantage.
 
The Cougars shot an outstanding 61.8% from the field and 45.5% from behind the arc in the first half.
 
Ava Cirigliano, Landgraf, Marisa Captoni and Purdy scored in the paint in the third period as Misericordia carried a 59-40 lead into the fourth.
 
Brenna Hunt opened the scoring in the fourth quarter, battling on the offensive boards and converting second-chance points to push the lead to 61-40.
 
The Cougars found their shooting stroke again as Janeski knocked down a three-pointer with just under seven minutes left, then hit her fourth and final triple nearly a minute later.
 
With Misericordia leading 75-55, Cirigliano found Samantha Casey under the basket and Caitlin Sweeney knocked down two free throws to secure the win.
