The Misericordia University women's basketball team improved to 12-12 overall and 7-6 in the MAC Freedom with a 78-53 win over Delaware Valley, Wednesday evening.

Emily Romanowski led the Cougars with a double-double, scoring 31 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Romanowski was 18-19 from the foul line to set a school single-game record for made free throws.

Morgan Janeski added 15 points while
Ava Cirigliano chipped in with 13.

The first quarter started slow for both teams, and with under four minutes left and the Cougars trailing 7-2,
Lizzy Mitchell hit a three-pointer from the left wing to cut into the Aggies' lead.

Cirigliano then picked off a bad pass and hustled down the court for a layup with just over two minutes remaining to give Misericordia a 9-7 advantage.

At the buzzer,
Marisa Captoni knocked down a pull-up jumper from the right elbow to send the Cougars into the second quarter with a 13-9 lead.

Misericordia found its rhythm in the second quarter. Romanowski grabbed a rebound and went coast-to-coast for a layup while drawing a foul, converting the free throw to complete the three-point play and extend the lead to 16-10.

She scored 13 of the Cougars' 20 points in the quarter, including a run of eight straight, before Janeski buried a three-pointer with just over a minute left in the half. Cirigliano later found Janeski under the rim for a quick layup with 20 seconds remaining, giving the Cougars a 33-20 lead at the break.

Janeski carried the momentum into the third quarter, knocking down another three-pointer before spinning past her defender for a layup to push the lead to 38-22. With just under two minutes left in the third, Romanowski drilled a corner three to give Misericordia a commanding 56-35 advantage.

In the fourth quarter, the Cougars outscored the Aggies 19-11, capped by a fastbreak layup from
Alina Torchia, as Misericordia closed out the 78-53 victory.
