The Misericordia University men's wrestling team has five wrestlers alive after the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Region 3 Championships in Ewing, NJ.

Michael Williams (149) and
Aiden Hidlay (285) advanced to the semifinals while
Jaydin Barreto (125),
Anthony Matas (174) and
Robbie Anderson (184) are all alive in the consolation bracket.

All five wrestlers have earned all-region status.

Williams opened with a 17-1 technical fall in 4:38 over Jack Doran of York and got a takedown midway through the third period to secure a 4-2 win over Jason Giordano of TCNJ in the quarterfinals.

He'll face top-seeded Thomas Monn of McDaniel in the semifinals.

Hidlay got an escape and a stalling point early in the second period to take a 2-0 lead over Matthew Coon of TCNJ in his first match. He earned a takedown later in the period and added a takedown with less than a minute remaining to secure the 10-2 win.

In the quarterfinals against Simon Taylor of Gettysburg, he escaped :30 seconds into the third period to tie the match and got a takedown with a minute remaining on the way to a 4-1 win.

He'll face Mohamed Abdelatty of Ursinus in the semifinals.

Barreto lost by fall in his opening match, but won two straight bouts to reach the consolation quarters where he'll face Isaiah Brewster of McDaniel.

Matas won his opener by fall over Gavin Fehr of Elizabethtown before falling to Anthony Cerulli of Ursinus, 8-0. He picked up five takedowns to beat William Knapp of Alvernia, 17-3. He'll face Alex Taylor of McDaniel in the consolation quarterfinals.

Anderson won his first bout by tech. fall, 18-3, in 5:49 over DeShawn Woodhouse of Eastern before losing by tech. fall in the quarters.

He earned four takedowns to beat Ben Sanders of Ursinus, 16-5, in his first consolation match. He'll face Luke Thies of TCNJ in consie semis.

Championship semifinals and consolation quarters are set for Saturday at 10:00 am. Consolation semifinals will follow at noon with championship finals and the medal round set for 1:30.
