Cougars Fall in MAC Freedom Title Game

The Misericordia University men's basketball season ended with a 68–59 loss at Stevens, Saturday evening in the MAC Freedom Championship.
 
Jack Gallagher led the Cougars with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Darryl Wright opened the game for the Cougars with a quick drive and score to give Misericordia a 2–0 lead early.
Trailing 3–2, Eli Stoute knocked down a three-pointer from the left wing to regain the lead.
 
Around the 14-minute mark, Wright banked in a deep three-pointer as the shot clock expired, extending the Cougars' lead to 9–3.
 
After a 12–0 Stevens run, Gallagher muscled his way under the basket and hit a tough turnaround hook off the glass to cut the deficit to 19–13 with nine minutes left in the first half.
 
With just over six minutes remaining, the Cougars made a brief push to cut the lead to six, but a 14–4 Stevens run to close the half sent Misericordia into the locker room trailing 38–22.
 
The Cougars came out of halftime with urgency, opening the second half on a 6–0 run capped by a quick layup from Stoute.
 
The teams traded baskets for much of the half, but with Misericordia trailing 54–44 and seven minutes remaining, Nate Townsend provided a spark with two quick layups and a smooth turnaround jumper from the left elbow to cut the deficit to 56–48.
 
With just under four minutes to play, Townsend drove across the lane and found Gallagher wide open under the basket for a layup, trimming the Ducks' lead to six. Trailing 60–52, Gallagher went back to work in the paint, scoring on consecutive possessions to again cut the margin to six.
 
The Cougars were unable to make a final push in the closing minute and ultimately fell to the Ducks, 68–59.
