Bryan Henry threw a one-hit shutout to lead the Misericordia University baseball team to a 5-0 win over Norwich in their spring break opener, Saturday night.
Henry struck out five while allowing just a third-inning double.
Shane Patten went 2-for-3 with an RBI single.
The Cougars struck right away in the top of the first inning. Owen Daminger reached base on a hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a stolen base and a groundout. Brooks Kanwisher then grounded out to give MU a 1-0 lead.
Misericordia added two more runs in the fourth. Drew Van Horn reached on a bunt single and stole second and third. After Joe Peters walked and stole second, Patten ripped a single to left field to make it 2-0. Following a double steal, Owen Cordner hit a sacrifice fly to center field that gave the Cougars a 3-0 lead.
Misericordia added another run in the top of the sixth. Patten singled to right field and advanced to second on a stolen base before Cordner drove him in with a single to center.
MU added one more run in the top of the eighth. Chase Parise walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch and later scored on an error to extend the Cougars lead to 5-0.
Henry shut down the Cadets offense throughout the game, striking out two of the final three Norwich batters to seal the  victory.
