Softball Splits at Wilkes

The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader at Wilkes, Sunday.
 
The Cougars dropped the opener, 10-4, but rallied to win the nightcap, 10-5.
 
Casey Funesti had four hits and drove in the two runs in the opener.
 
Gianna Russo had three hits in the nightcap and Bridget Doherty, Kiersten Tinio and Alicia Moran all had two hits.
 
Gabby Cruz scattered four hits over four innings to pick up the win.
 
In the opener, the Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Funesti's two-out single up the middle.
 
Wilkes answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and added six in the second inning.
 
In game two, the Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.  Bridget Doherty led of the game with a single and scored on back-to-back errors.  Russo single to left center to give MU a 4-0 lead.
 
MU added two runs in the third and fourth innings and scored four times in the fourth.
 
Tinio led off the third with a single and moved up on Funesti's single through the left side.  Russo singled to center to drive in two runs and give Misericordia a 4-0 lead.
 
Cruz doubled to lead off the fourth and pinch-runner Emma Lamlin scored on Doherty's single to left.  Doherty stole second and scored on a pair of wild pitches to make it 6-1.

Alicia Moran singled in a pair of runs to key a four-run fifth and extend MU's lead to 10-2.
