Five Misericordia University softball players have been named to the All-MAC Freedom team, including four first-team selections.
Gabby Cruz,
Kiersten Tinio,
Bridget Doherty and
Casey Funesti were all named to the first team while
Mackenzie Fizer earned honorable mention.
In addition, head coach
Chris Blum,
Candice Jones,
Brooke Sroczinski and Jordyn Resetar were named co-Coaching Staff of the Year.
The Cougars finished 27-13 overall and earned the top seed in the MAC Freedom champions with a 12-2 mark during the regular season. MU finished second in the MAC Freedom Tournament for the second consecutive season.
Cruz, a sophomore pitcher, was 16-4 and led the league in wins. She was second in the league with 84 strikeouts and was sixth in earned run average.
She had a league-best 1.63 ERA and was 7-0 in MAC Freedom contests.
Tinio and Doherty were both named as outfielders.
Tinio, a junior, led the league in on-base percentage (.536) and was third in hitting (.452). She was fifth in doubles (10) and sixth in runs scored (33). She was second on the team with 14 multi-hit games.
Doherty, a senior, led the league with 49 runs and 25 walks and was second in on-base percentage (.526). She was fifth in hits (50) and ninth in hitting (.407).
Funesti, a senior, split time between first base and third base. She was second in the league in hits (54) and RBI (40) and was fourth in doubles (14).
She was fifth in batting (.429). She had a team-high 18 multi-hit games and had a team-best 17-game hitting streak.
Fizer, a senior, earned honorable mention at second base. She was fifth in the league in runs (34) and RBI (31) and ninth in doubles (9).
She ranked in the top-20 in the league in batting (.340), slugging percentage (.462) and on-base percentage (.450).
