The Misericordia University field hockey team lost, 3-0, to Cortland, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Â
Jordan Nonnemacher had five saves while
Madison Lasinski recorded three shots on goal.
Â
The Cougars were on the defensive for the early part of the first quarter, defending Cortland's possession on their side of the field.
Â
After a long outlet pass got Misericordia onto its offensive side, the Cougars went on the attack, trying to put pressure on the Red Dragon defense with a couple of penalty corners.
Â
Misericordia's team defense held strong again as another Cortland look from in front of the goal was blocked by a Cougar defender.
Â
Eventually Cortland converted on a goal to take a 1-0 lead with just over eight minutes left in the first quarter.
Â
Lasinski had a chance to even it up after stealing the ball on the right flank, taking it to the middle and firing, but the Red Dragon goalie managed to get a foot out in front of it and make the stop.
Â
Cortland added a goal in the second and third quarters to extend its lead to 3-0.
Â
The Cougars were able to manufacture some offense in the final frame as Lasinski got the ball on the left flank and got a shot off, but the Cortland goalie made the stop.
Â
Lasinski had one more scoring opportunity with less than 30 seconds left, taking a shot from the right of the goal that was kicked away.
