The Misericordia University field hockey team used a pair of bookend goals to pick up its first win of the season to hand head coach Michaela Singer her first career victory with a 2-0 win over Muhlenberg, Tuesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Madison Blauch and
Riley Dwyer scored for MU while
Celeste Hoffman and
Ashleigh Steele added assists.
Jordan Nonnemacher made four saves to record her first career shutout.
The Cougars took an early lead on their first shot of the game. Â Blauch inserted a penalty corner and took a return pass from Hoffman where she slid a shot inside the left post just 2:29 into the first quarter.
Nonnemacher came out of the goal to win possession late in the second period to thwart a Muhlenberg threat.
She made a big save near the right post with 6:30 to go in the fourth quarter.
MU countered a late Muhlenberg corner and tacked on an insurance goal when Steele found Dwyer for a tough-angle shot from the right flank with just :09 to play.
