Misericordia University Athletics

The Misericordia University field hockey team defeated Kean, 3-2, Friday evening.
 
Madison Blauch led the Cougars with two goals while Madison Lasinski added one. Celeste Hoffman, Ava Cirigliano and Delaney Miller each recorded an assist.
 
Blauch managed to sneak the game-winning shot between a Kean defender and the goalie to give the Cougars their first lead of the game with less than five minutes to play.  MU took advantage of a penalty corner as Miller got the ball on the left flank and dished it to Blauch, who was positioned on the left edge of the goal for the game-winner.
 
Misericordia created its first scoring opportunity in the opening quarter when Ashleigh Steele sent a shot just wide with 6:24 remaining.
 
Down 1-0 after one period, Misericordia quickly answered in the second quarter when Hoffman dished it to Blauch, who converted in front of the cage to tie the game at 1-1 just over three minutes into the period. Kean regained the lead just over two minutes later, but the MU continued to generate chances as Steele put a shot on goal that was saved.
 
Trailing to start the third quarter, the Cougars came out aggressively, earning four penalty corners and creating several scoring opportunities. Skylar Kohler opened the quarter with a shot that went wide before Lasinski had a shot stopped by a defensive save.
 
With about eight minutes left in the third quarter, Cirigliano sent a bullet pass through the defense to Lasinski in front of the goal, who redirected it into the back of the cage.
 
Misericordia continued to attack late in the quarter with Lasinski having another shot blocked and Cirigliano sending a shot wide.
 
Misericordia continued its offensive pressure in the fourth quarter, earning multiple penalty corners and getting multiple shots on target.
 
Jordan Nonnemacher made five saves on eight shots on goal faced.
