The Misericordia University volleyball team opened its MAC Freedom schedule with a 3-2 win at Marywood, Tuesday night.
After dropping the opening set, the Cougars next the two sets, 25-21, 25-18.
Marywood stayed alive with a 25-23 win and the Cougars took the final set, 15-10.
Isabella Lutter had 13 kills and five aces and
Jennifer Nicometo had 11 kills and four aces.
Cassandra Genduso had 11 kills and four blocks and
Keira McCaffrey had seven blocks and three aces.
Katie Royds had 28 assists and
Maggie Duda had a team-high 13 digs.
The Cougars took advantage of a service error to break a 20-20 tie in the second set and kills by Genduso and Nicometo made it 23-20.
Genduso and Lutter had back-to-back kills to close out the 25-21 win.
Genduso's kill and a pair of Pacers errors put MU ahead for good, 16-13, in the third set.
McCaffrey's kill and an ace from Lutter keyed a 4-0 run to end a 25-18 win.
After Nicometo's ace gave MU a 22-21 lead in the fourth set, Marywood scored four of the next five points to win 25-23.
In the finale, Nicometo's ace capped a 4-0 run to give MU a 4-1 lead.
Marywood pulled even, but the Cougars scored seven straight to take control, 11-4.
Duda served for six straight points in the run, including an ace.
Marywood rallied to get within 12-10, but McCaffrey and
Olivia Conza answered with kills and Lutter closed the match with an ace.
