Misericordia University Athletics

The Misericordia University football team rallied for a thrilling 28-24 Homecoming win over Stevenson, Saturday at Mangelsdorf Field.
 
After falling behind for the first time with 1:17 to play, the Cougars marched 75 yards in six plays in less than a minute to score the winning touchdown.
 
Ronnie Borden threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns in his first collegiate start and Angelo Fluri ran for two touchdowns.
 
Jordan Alston has six catches, including a touchdown and Luke Hoerl added four touchdowns and a score.  Jassan Whittaker had a team-high nine receptions.
 
Nate Malarky had eight tackles, including four for loss, and Ben Gable added eight tackles.
 
The Cougars built a 21-3 lead at halftime and still led by that margin with 1:08 left in the third quarter.
 
Stevenson scored in two plays on the ensuing possession and scored twice in the final 10 minutes of regulation to take a 24-21 lead with 1:17 to play.
 
On second-and-10 from their own 25, Borden hit Derek Infante over the middle for 34 yards to the Stevenson 41.
 
Facing first-and-15, Borden hit Hoerl over the middle for 17 yards to the 29.
 
Whittaker made a leaping grab over the middle on second-and-5 to the Stevenson 8.
 
On first-and-goal, Fluri went off left tackle for his second score of the game and a 28-24 lead with :25 to go.
 
The Cougars forced a three-and-out on the game's first series and then went 62 yards in seven plays to take a quick 7-0 lead.
 
Borden hit Whittaker on a slant for 27 yards to the Stevenson 35 and connected with Fluri on the left sidelines to 12 yards to the 23.
 
Whittaker had six-yard catch to set up fourth-and-1 and Fluri broke a tackle and bounced outside for an 11-yard gain.  Fluri went up the middle for a three-yard score on the next play to give MU a 7-0 lead with 10:03 left in the opening quarter.
 
Stevenson got within 7-3 with a field goal with 5:55 to go in the first half and the Cougars responded with another quick scoring drive.
 
On second-and-18 at their own 30, Robert Marx took a pass down the left sideline for 17 yards and Fluri went up the middle for six tough yards across midfield.
 
Borden hit Alston in stride on the next play for a 47-yard scoring strike and a 14-3 lead with 2:44 left in the first half.
 
The Cougars took over on downs at their own 47 with :55 to go and went 53 yards in six plays.
 
MU used a short-passing game and a pass interference penalty to move into Stevenson territory before Borden hit Hoerl along the left sideline where he raced to the pylon for a 20-yard score and 21-3 lead with :06 left in the half
 
The Cougars took the second-half kick-off and held the ball for 14 plays and chewed up nearly nine minutes before punting the ball away.
 
Both teams turned the ball over on downs on the next two possessions to set up Stevenson's late rally.
