The number 20 nationally-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team opened the season with a 0-0 draw at Gettysburg, Friday evening.

The Cougars created 13 shots, including eight on goal. Â
Marisa Patrissi recorded four saves to earn her first shutout.

Misericordia saw its opportunity at 5:43 when
Julia Hayward looped a free kick just wide of the net. The Cougars had another chance at 14:03, but Hayward's shot was smothered by the Gettysburg goalkeeper in front of the net.

Hayward created one more shot opportunity for MU with a shot that was just wide to the right just before halftime.

Ella Cipriani got the first shot on goal in the second half for the Cougars, slicing the ball towards the bottom right corner, but it was saved by the Bullets goalkeeper.

Misericordia earned its best opportunity of the night when Hayward was fouled in the box to create a penalty kick, but the Cougars were unable to convert.

MU saw two more shots on goal with
Kaleigh Horos attempting a shot down the middle and Hayward shooting one to the bottom right corner but both were stopped as the time ran out.

Patrissi made a diving save with four minutes remaining to keep the game scoreless.
