The Misericordia University field hockey team paid homage to its seniors with Senior Appreciation Day Saturday, and the seniors responded with heavy contribution to a 2-1 win over Delaware Valley.
Junior forward Shannon Elqorchi was the first to score. She sparked a shot through congestion to score at 27:14. Senior midfielder Heather DiMenno earned the assist—her team-leading eighth of the season.
Next, it was senior forward Laura Leighow who scored at 32:44 with an assist from classmate Ashlee Leonard to make it 2-0. The goal is Leighow's team-leading eleventh.
The Cougars outshot their opponents 20-11 in a game where they controlled possession throughout.
Senior goalie Ellen Howanitz allowed the lone Aggies goal with just a minute remaining in the second half. She recorded six saves in the game.
The Cougars improved to 11-4 with four games remaining before conference championships. They host conference rival Wilkes on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
