The Misericordia University earned its first ever Freedom Conference win with a 2-1 victory in a defensive struggle at King's, Thursday evening.
Ashlee Leonard and
Laura Leighow both scored goals late in the first half as the Cougars improved to 8-3 overall and 1-1 in the Freedom Conference.
Ellen Howanitz made three saves to earn the win in goal.
Leonard scored a rebound goal on
Heather DiMenno's shot to give MU a 1-0 lead with 8:27 remaining in the first half.
Leighow added an insurance goal on a breakaway with 4:02 to play in the half.
King's cut the lead in half two minutes later, but neither team could find the back of the cage the rest of the way.
The Cougars had an edge in shots, 8-7, and corners, 10-7.
