The Misericordia University field hockey dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in double-overtime to Wilkes, Wednesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
The Cougars carried the play throughout much of the second half and both overtime periods before the Colonels converted a penalty corner with no time remaining.
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the game and it stood until the final minutes of regulation.
Heather DiMenno broke through the Wilkes defense and fed
Jen Lozier for the game-tying goal with 2:06 left.
MU had plenty of excellent scoring opportunities throughout OT, but Wilkes goalie Lindsey Davenport made several key stops.
Ellen Howanitz made 12 saves for the Cougars.
Misericordia (11-5, 4-2 Freedom), had a 28-22 edge in shots while both teams had 10 penalty corners.
