The Misericordia University field hockey team beat Marywood 3-0 in the regular season home finale. With the win, the Cougars improve to 13-5 with one game to go in the season.

Senior midfielder Heather DiMenno scored her third goal of the season on a pass from freshman midfielder Kelsey DeBruyne to put the Cougars up early at 14:07.

Senior forward Laura Leighow followed suit in the second half when she bashed an insurance goal off a pass from senior forward Ashlee Leonard to the net at 35:41. Leighow leads the team with 13 goals.

Freshman forward Haley Ellis sealed the win with a goal at 60:45. The goal is Ellis' seventh. Leighow picked up the assist.

“The team moved well together as a unit and put up a united front,” head coach Robyn Stahovic said. “This is exactly how we need to be playing at the end of the season. We moved up and down the field really well.

Freshman Megan Lafaw made her debut at goal after spending the better part of the season on defense. She made four saves in goal to preserve the shutout.

“Megan made a great debut in the cage today,” Stahovic said. “The transition was natural. She was very comfortable in front of the net and made some great stops.”

The Cougars close the season at Eastern Saturday at noon.
