Cougars Sweep Scranton

Host PAC Championships This Weekend

The Misericordia University softball team belted out 26 hits, including seven home runs, to sweep a non-conference doubleheader against The University of Scranton Tuesday evening at Tripp Park.

Hollie Sarnak and Nicole Hoskins both hit a home run and combined for five hits and three RBI as the Cougars took the opener, 7-4.

In the nightcap, Misericordia broke open a close game by hitting four home runs during an 11-run rally in the top of the fifth inning en route to a 15-3 victory.

Hoskins hit two home runs and a double and drove in six runs and sophomore Katie Eiden, Nicole Wenner and Ashley Ballard all homered in the second game for the Cougars, who finished with 16 hits altogether.

Katherine Lucenti struck out four and scattered eight hits in the first game, while Eiden allowed just four hits and one earned run in the second game.

The Cougars improved to 30-10 and will host Gwynedd-Mercy in their PAC playoff opener, Saturday at noon at Anderson Field.

Neumann will play Alvernia in the opening game at 10:00 a.m.
