Ashlee Leonard scored on a penalty stroke with eight minutes remaining in overtime to lift the Misericordia University field hockey team to a 2-1 win over the University of Scranton, Tuesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Leonard's goal came minutes after MU defender
Jamie Wargo raced from behind to thwart a one-on-one breakaway by Scranton's Kaitlyn Tirney.
Scranton took a 1-0 lead on Tirney's rebound goal with 7:56 to play in the first period.
Haley Ellis made 1-1 with a an assist from
Jen Lozier off a corner just 1:30 into the second half.
Ellen Howanitz made seven saves for Misericordia.
Misericordia improved to 7-2 and will host Manhattanville in their Freedom Conference opener, Saturday at 4:00.
