The Misericordia University women's soccer team suffered a 4-1 defeat to regionally-ranked Elizabethtown College Tuesday night. The lone Cougars goal, however, snapped a five-game shutout streak for the Blue Jays.
With game still scoreless, an Elizabethtown goal seemed inevitable at the 24:00 mark when the Blue Jays swarmed. Misericordia sophomore back
Jenica Keister cleared off the line to save a goal from an empty net, and moments later sophomore keeper
Morgan Myers made a point-blank save to preserve the null.
Four minutes later, at 28:02, Elizabethtown senior Brooke Dotterer scored her first goal on Myers.
Junior Erin Scott closed out the first half with a goal at 44:15. She was assisted by sophomore forward Erin Stone.
The Cougars showed fight at the start of the second half when freshman forward
Lauren Payne scored at 48:02 to tie freshman forward
Kelly Bergin for the team lead with three scores. Senior midfielder
Elizabeth Lipovsky assisted.
Up 2-1, the Blue Jays scored two more unanswered goals in the second half—both by Dotterer. The first came at 50:19 and the second at 63:22.
Misericordia travels to Manhattanville College on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. Freedom Conference showdown.
