Lacey DeGraw entered Wednesday night's game against Delaware Valley needing just 22 points to break 1,000 career points. The feat couldn't have been conquered in more dramatic fashion than in a 62-58 overtime win at home.
After scoring the team's first points on a trademark layup, DeGraw was hushed through much of the first half.
It took an 11-0 run to bring the Cougars out of an early deficit. The run started on back-to-back three-pointers from Courtney Sykes and Rachel Selert.
Jesse Robinson led the Cougar offense with 10 points before halftime.
DeGraw was held to six points in the first half, but the Cougars headed to the break up 34-27.
Discontent with being capped in single digits, DeGraw entered the second half with determination. She sank the team's first three field goals to keep pace with the six points put up by the Aggies.
She sank the team's next three to try to keep pace with her surging opponents.
With 1:32 left in regulation, Christine Marks sank the first Cougar field goal not to come from DeGraw. The second half was all DeGraw—just as fate would have it.
Down 55-54, DeGraw headed to the line for a pair of foul shots with just four seconds to play. She needed three points to hit 1,000. After easily sinking the first, she watched the second bounce off the glass and to the Aggie defense waiting below. The game would head to overtime.
DeGraw sank the lone Cougar field goal in OT within the first two minutes. She was immediately honored on the court for her feat.
She sank two of the team's five free throws that followed in an eventual 62-58 win.
DeGraw's 24 led the Cougars. Robinson ended with 11, and Marks hooped 10.
The Cougars (8-6, 4-3) travel to DeSales Saturday. The game tips off at 1:00 p.m.
