Cougars Earn First Win

The Misericordia University women's basketball team placed five players in double figures to pick up their first win of the season, 86-50, over Penn College at Susquehanna, Sunday.

Jesse Robinson led the Cougars with 15 points and Caitlin Sweeney added 14.

Kayla Sileo had 12 points and Courtney Sykes and Katie Drayton had 10 points each.

The Cougars shot an impressive 90.5% from the free throw line (19-21), including 7-7 by Robinson.

Leading 11-9 midway through the opening period, MU went on a 21-4 run over the next seven minutes to build a 32-13 lead.

Robinson and Tyann McDaniel both sank a pair of free throws to open the run and after Vanessa Wright converted a steal into a layup, Marks completed a three-point play for a 20-11 lead.

After a steal and a layup by Robinson, Sweeney scored five straight points to put MU ahead, 32-13.

Following a Penn basket, Sileo scored six unanswered points for a 38-15 lead with 4:29 remaining in the half.

Penn never got closer than 23 points in the second half and the Cougars eventually built a 39-point lead, 82-43, with two minutes to play.

The Cougars will host Lycoming, Tuesday at 6:00.
