On Monday night, the Misericordia women's basketball team won their third consecutive game, defeating Centenary 67-55 thanks in large part to a big double-double from sophomore Christine Marks (25 points, 14 rebounds, 9-of-9 from the free throw line).

Junior Courtney Sykes also had a big day for the Cougars, with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting, 10 rebounds and a team-high four assists. After leading MU in scoring the last two games, Jesse Robinson chipped in 17 points and nine boards.

The Cougars jumped out to an early lead as Marks scored the game's first seven points (and Misericordia's first nine). MU led 9-3 after five and a half minutes.

With two minutes to play in the first half, Robinson followed a Vanessa Wright basket by stealing the inbound and laying it in herself, giving MU their first double-digit lead, 35-25.

Centenary tried to establish their outside shot, attempting almost half of their field goal attempts from three-point range. However, the Cyclones only shot 23% for the game from behind the arc.

After a little Centenary run to start the second half, Sykes drained a three-pointer to re-establish the Cougars' 10-point lead.

A tough, off-balance put-back by Robinson stretched the Misericordia lead to 48-32 before freshman Tyann McDaniel gave MU its biggest lead of the contest, 53-35.

Centenary went on another 7-0 run that was again ended by Sykes, this time from the free-throw line. Sykes then found Marks, whose nice post move gave Misericordia a 63-46 lead with four minutes to play, all but sealing the victory.

The Cougars improve to 3-2 on the season with the win. They will begin Freedom Conference play on Wednesday with a trip to nearby Wilkes at 6:00 PM.
