The Misericordia women's basketball team made it two Freedom Conference road wins in as many tries as they ran away with a 57-37 victory at host Eastern on Saturday afternoon.

MU jumped out to an early 11-4 advantage and never trailed, eventually putting the game away early in the second half. The Cougars have won five straight games and improve to 5-2, 2-0 on the season.

Misericordia will now go over a month before resuming conference play. The Cougars travel to Marywood and Rosemont next week, and then are off until the Lycoming Tournament on January 2-3. MU resumes Freedom play on January 9, at home to DeSales.

Sophomore Christine Marks led the Cougars with 21 points and 11 rebounds. She shot 15-18 from the free throw line to set a new school single-game record for free throws made. Jesse Robinson had 10 points and seven rebounds, and freshman Kayla Sileo had 8 points on 3-of-4 shooting.

Up 11 early in the second half, Sileo hit a basket to give MU its largest lead at that point, 31-18. The Eagles immediately hit a three-pointer to pull back within 10.

The Cougars ran away with the game from that point. A Bernadette Guy jumper from the top of the key put them up 33-21, before Robinson was fouled and made her lay-up shot to stretch the advantage to 14 points.

With 11 minutes to play, Sileo hit a trey and then nearly hit another from the same spot on the ensuing possession, but her shot rimmed out.

A pair of Robinson free throws made the score 40-24, and a Sykes bank shot put MU up 18, 43-24.

With just over six minutes to play, a Robinson free throw gave Misericordia a 19-point lead, and Vanessa Wright's three-pointer the next time down the floor made it a 22-point gap.

It was the largest lead of the game, but the Cougars easily closed out the win.

In the first half, the Cougars led early, 11-4. After an Eastern three-pointer, Marks hit a jumper and Wright finished a nice drive to put MU up eight.

After a late 5-0 Eastern run, the Cougars closed out the half strong. A Tyann McDaniel three-pointer put Misericordia up six before Robinson and Marks each hit a pair of free throws in the final minute as MU entered halftime up 27-16.

Marks had an impressive 13 points and nine rebounds in the first half. MU held its opponents to just six made field goals in the period, while forcing 14 Eagle turnovers.
