The Misericordia women's basketball team topped FDU-Florham 59-46 Wednesday night at the Anderson Center. The Cougars have just three games to play and greatly improved their chances of making the postseason with the win.
Lacey DeGraw added another 20-point night to her season. Christine Marks scored 11, and Lindsey Sykes added 10 more to the win.
At the end of the first half, both teams headed to halftime with more turnovers than field goals. The score was knotted at 21-21, and Sykes, the Cougars' leading scorer, had just five points.
But the game got neater after the break, and the Cougars were able to run away with on the strength of a 19-2 run. Vanessa Wright got things going with a jumper before DeGraw strung together seven consecutive points. Six additional points of the run came off DeGraw's fingers.
The run put the Cougars up 49-40. They would not score another field goal in the game, but easily kept control by sinking ten free throws before the final buzzer. The team shot 16-for-19 from the line over the course of the game.
The Cougars (12-10, 7-6) head to Manhatannville Saturday and return to action at home Tuesday, Feb. 17, against Wilkes.
