The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader with FDU-Florham Wednesday at home. The Devils won game one 10-4, and the Cougars retaliated with a 1-0 win in game two.
The Cougars trailed early in game one after the Devils put up five runs in three innings off starter Katherine Lucenti, but they reclaimed three of those runs on a homerun to right by Hollie Sarnak in the bottom of the third.
In the seventh, down 10-3, Sarnak drove in another run on a sac fly to left.
Katie Eiden was pitted in a pitcher's duel in game two. She overcame illness to throw a complete game shutout, striking out 11 and allowing just three hits.
The dividing run came off the bat of Courtney Novajosky in the bottom of the sixth. Novajosky hammered a ball over the center field fence, and the Cougars held on to win it.
Sarnak ended the day with two hits, five RBIs and a run. Novajosky collected three hits, an RBI and three runs.
The Cougars play at Lycoming tomorrow at 3 p.m.
