The Misericordia University softball team ended the regular season with a non-conference sweep over Arcadia, 5-4, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Anderson Field.
Nicole Hoskins had two hits and two RBI in the opener and
Courtney Novajosky had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Kat Lucenti tossed a six-hitter and allowed just one earned run in eight innings to pick up the win.
Misericordia took a 1-0 lead in the second when
Maria Kidron singled and scored on
Gina Urbon's double to right centerfield.
The Cougars went ahead 3-1 on Hoskins' two-run single in the third and made it 4-1 on
Nicole Wenner's sacrifice fly in the fourth.
After Arcadia rallied to force extra innings, the Cougars won it in the eighth. Urbon drew a one-out walk, advanced on
Jillian Castaldi's infield single and scored on Novajosky's two-out single to left.
In the nightcap,
Hollie Sarnak had three hits and two RBI and
Lindsay Miller added two hits.
Katie Eiden struck out while allowing just three hits and no earned runs to notch the win.
Novajosky led off the first with a single and advanced to second on an error before scoring on Wenner's single.
The Cougars broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth when Urbon and Miller singled and scored on Sarnak's double to right.
Misericordia is 24-12 and is the top seed in the upcoming Freedom Conference playoffs. The Cougars will face the Wilkes (#4)/King's (#5) winner in the first round, Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Wilkes.
