MU Softball Sweeps King's

The Misericordia University softball team swept a doubleheader from King's in the first Freedom Conference meeting between the schools, Thursday at Anderson Field.

MU took the opener, 4-1, and rallied to win the nightcap, 8-4.

Courtney Novajosky drilled a three-run homer in the fifth inning to lead Misericordia in the opener.

Lindsay Miller added two hits and scored a run.

Miller led off the fourth with a single and eventually scored on a error to give MU a 1-0 lead.

Kat Lucenti scattered six hits and struck out nine to earn the win.

In the nightcap, Nicole Hoskins had four hits and Miller added three and Hollie Sarnak and Nicole Wenner blasted back-to-back homers for the Cougars.

MU took a 3-1 lead in the third with Jillian Castaldi driving in two runs on a single.

Misericordia added four runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run homer by Harnak and a solo shot from Wenner. Castaldi added another RBI-single.

Hoskins made it 8-4 in the bottom of the inning with a bases loaded single.

Katie Eiden allowed seven hits to earn the win while Walp took the loss for the Monarchs.

Misericordia improved to 14-10 overall and 7-3 in the Freedom while King's dips to 11-11 overall and 3-5 in the Freedom.
