Softball Eliminated on Heartbreaker

The Misericordia University softball season came to a heartbreaking end with a 10-9 extra-inning loss to DeSales at the Freedom Conference championships, Saturday.

Courtney Novajosky had three hits and two RBI and Gina Urbon added three hits.  Hollie Sarnak had four RBI, including a three-run homer and Katie Eiden added two hits, including a solo homer.

Kat Lucenti took the loss in relief of Eiden.

Eiden led off a four-run fourth with a solo homer.  Novajosky singled and moved to second on Lindsay Miller's bunt single before Sarnak drilled a three-run homer to give MU a 6-1 lead.



DeSales scored once in the fifth and used six hits to the score in the bottom of the seventh.

MU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Novajosky led off with a double and moved to third on Miller's sacrifice. 

Sarnak doubled off the right field fence to score Novajosky and after Wenner walked, Urbon singled to right to score Sarnak.

The Cougars added four runs in the third.  Sarnak walked and moved to third when  Wenner doubled down the left field line.  Hoskins lined a single to center to make it 4-0.

After a pitching change, Urbon singled and both runners moved up on a wild pitch and an illegal pitch.

Castaldi's RBI-groundout made it 6-0.

Hoskins drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth and Castaldi delivered a two-run single up the middle to end the scoring.

Misericordia finished 25-14.
