Kim Suchoski moved into a tie for 10th all-time in goals scored in a Misericordia uniform as her two strikes gave the Cougars (2-0) a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Moravian, under the lights at Mangelsdorf Field.
MU survived a second-half Moravian barrage after the Greyhounds had equalized, and won the match when a long free kick was touched down by freshman
Sam Helmstetter and slid in by Suchoski.
It was a reverse of Tuesday's victorious combination, when Suchoski found Helmstetter for an overtime winner against Lebanon Valley.
The Cougars started the game on the attack, and a great through ball from
Andrea Sierer found sophomore
Lauren Payne in behind the defense just eight minutes in. Payne's shot was saved but Suchoski tapped in the rebound to give MU an early lead.
Payne later had three great chances in the span of 30 seconds, with the Moravian keeper smothering her breakaway before a defender dove to block her rebound attempt. On the next play, Payne put the ball in the upper netting, only to be called for offsides, nullifying the goal.
Moravian had their best chance of the half minutes later, as a Greyhound striker missed wide after a scramble in front of the goal mouth.
Sierer shot just wide six minutes into the second half before Moravian began to go on the attack.
MU goalkeeper
Morgan Myers made a great breakaway kick save with half an hour to play, her first of several fantastic stops on the night. The Moravian striker shot high in the ensuing scrum.
Two minutes later the game was tied, as a Moravian forward beat Myers and saw her shot put in by a trailing teammate from three yards out.
Right off the kickoff, Moravian won possession and got behind the defense again, with Myers coming hard off her line to make a save at the Moravian goalscorer's feet.
The Cougars soon found their composure however, and after having one corner kick cleared off the line, they won the game on Suchoski's second goal of the night with 13 minutes to play.
Myers was forced into one more nice save with five minutes to play, diving to her right just seconds after defender
Jenn Brucker had made a bold sliding clearance in the box.
The undefeated Cougars face a difficult test tomorrow as they play TCNJ, ranked #21 in the nation and coming off an 8-1 victory over Lycoming.
