Junior
Dan Pinto scored in the second half as the Misericordia University men's soccer team won its second straight Freedom Conference game, 1-0 over Delaware Valley in Doylestown, PA.
Pinto's goal came in the 54th minute as the midfielder slid the ball in off an assist from
Chris Hummel, after MU had a throw-in deep in Aggie territory.
The Cougars had several great chances to double their advantage, including two occasions where they hit the woodwork.
Three and a half minutes after the goal, junior
Bryan Kulbacki ripped a 19-yard free kick off the post and teammate
Andy Bush put the rebound wide.
Later Kulbacki saw another hard shot saved by the DVC goalkeeper before Bush collected a long throw in and launched his shot off the crossbar.
Sophomore
Greg Korhonen came up huge on the defensive end for MU, blocking a shot off the goal line in the 89th minute after a corner kick was only partially cleared.
Early in the first half, Bush had gotten free along the end-line and forced a nice kick save from the Aggies goalkeeper.
Late in the half MU keeper
Mason Astaneh came up big, holding a dangerous free kick that was lofted in and then making a tough fingertip save a minute later.
The Cougars had a whopping 10 corners in the first half but couldn't convert on any of them. Four minutes before halftime, a corner fell to freshman
Bo Garrick but he put his shot over the crossbar.
The Cougars improve to 9-6, 2-2 and will travel to DeSales on Wednesday.
