The Misericordia University women's soccer team held a 19-5 shot advantage after halftime and hit the woodwork twice but couldn't break through in a 1-1 draw with Delaware Valley, Saturday in Doylestown, PA.
Misericordia had taken the lead in the 12th minute on the first real chance of the game.
Laura Roney played a through ball that put
Kim Suchoski in all alone and the senior forward slotted it home for her team-leading 11th goal of the season.
Delaware Valley had a golden chance to even the score midway through the first half when the Aggies were awarded a penalty kick, but the shot hit the crossbar.
DVC did tie the game in the 53rd minute, getting behind the Cougar defense and touching the ball past MU goalkeeper
Morgan Myers.
MU began to take control after the goal and hit the woodwork twice in the second half. In the 73rd minute,
Jenn Brucker played a nice pass off a free kick to Suchoski, who blasted her shot off the right post. Three minutes later, Roney put a 25-yard attempt off the crossbar.
Misericordia had other good chances late in regulation, including when Suchoski and
Katie Usher whipped balls across the goalmouth but no one was able to direct them home.
While the Cougars did not register another shot on goal in the first half, they also had a string of chances late in the period. First
Nicolette Hensel broke free down the right side and crossed to the back post, where Suchoski shot high. Then
Sam Helmstetter's header off a corner was blocked by an Aggie defender.
The Cougars are now 9-4-2, 1-2-1 and will travel to DeSales on Tuesday.
