Eastern scored twice in the final 32 minutes to complete the comeback as the Misericordia men's soccer team fell 2-1 in its Homecoming match, Saturday at Mangelsdorf Field.
Sophomore
Andy Bush had given MU the lead in the eighth minute with his eighth goal of the season. The sophomore collected the second ball off a long free kick from
Greg Korhonen and slotted in into the right side of the net.
Goalkeeper
Mason Astaneh made a nice save on an Eastern shot from the left side of the box mid-way through the half, and then came flying out to punch the ensuing cross away.
Eastern midfielder
Dexter Lamparter was unlucky not to equalize for the Eagles, ripping not one but two shots off the crossbar late in the opening period.
Just seconds after halftime, Eastern hit the bar again. The Eagles finally broke through in the 59th minute, curling in a 25-yard free kick into the far lower corner.
Misericordia nearly rallied within a minute of the tying goal when
Dan Pinto fed
Bryan Kulbacki through, but his breakaway shot was batted off the post by the Eagles keeper.
The Cougars were tiring at this point and Eastern grabbed the winner in the 79th minute, slipping a shot in from 10 yards out. In the final minute, the Eagles would hit the crossbar for a fourth time, but the final score ended 2-1 in favor of the visitors.
MU falls to 7-4, 0-1 with the loss and will travel to Dickinson on Wednesday before a massive road game against Freedom Conference finalist Manhattanville next Saturday.
