The Misericordia University field hockey team ended its 2010 season on a winning note, defeated Marywood 4-0 Thursday at Mangelsdorf Field.

Senior Jen Lozier scored twice in her final collegiate game, while classmate Amanda Blank also tallied a goal. The opening goal came from junior Kelly Pelcher, while assists were notched by Samantha Sorokas, Kelsey DeBruyne, Jenny Perucca and Gianna Handza.

Misericordia took the lead less than seven minutes in off a penalty corner. Pelcher re-directed a hard shot from Sorokas into the cage, putting the Cougars up 1-1.

MU also had two apparent scores disallowed before halftime. A minute after the goal, Sorokas finished off Blank's rebound but the play was waived off. Then Rebecca Hindman put the ball in after DeBruyne had hit the post, with that goal also called off for a foul.

The Cougars held a 16-0 advantage in shots for the first half and a 7-0 advantage in penalty corners. Marywood's Jamie Bowman made 10 saves in the opening period.

MU doubled its lead five minutes after the break. Blank played in a corner to DeBruyne and then redirected her shot in, making the score 2-0 Misericordia.

Cougar goalie Haley Brandt made a nice breakaway save on Marywood's Kathryn Morin, the only shot on goal registered by the Pacers all day. The chance was followed by five straight Marywood penalty corners, but the visitors could only muster one shot off the sequence.

The Cougars would add two more goals in the final 10 minutes, first from Lozier with an assist from Perucca, and then again from the senior off Handza's rebound.

Misericordia ends its season with an 8-9 record.
