Courtney Sykes scored a game-high 17 points to lead five players in double figures as the Misericordia University women's basketball team beat Centenary, 79-65, Monday.
Jesse Robinson had 16 points and
Tyann McDaniel and
Hannah Seely both added 13 points while
Christine Marks had 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Trailing 5-4, the Cougars took control of the game with an 11-0 run to take a 15-5 lead just five minutes into the game.
Marks gave the Cougars a 7-5 lead with a three-pointer and Sykes converted a three-point play to make it 10-5.
Robinson drained a pair of free throws and Sykes followed with a three-pointer for a 15-5 lead.
The Cougars maintained a double digit lead for most of the first half and eventually stretched to 36-21 on a pair of free throws from Seely and a Robinson jumper with 4:02 to go.
After the Cylcones cut the lead to 41-34 early in the second half, Robinson responded with five straight points, including two free throws and a three-point play.
Leading 53-41 with 13:48 to play, the Cougars put the game away with a 7-0 spurt to build a 60-41 lead with 11:20 remaining.
Robinson's jumper made it 55-41 and Seely converted a three-point play for a 58-41 lead.
Katie Drayton made a jumper for a 60-41 advantage with 11:20 to go.
Misericordia, 2-3, will host Wilkes in their Freedom Conference opener, Wednesday at 6:00.
