MU Rally Comes Up Short at Neumann

The Misericordia University baseball team's rally came up a little short in a 6-5 non-conference loss at Neumann, Wednesday.

After falling behind, 5-0, the Cougars pulled within a run and had the tying run on second base in ninth, but were unable to drive him in.

Jeff Slanovec had three hits, including a double, for MU and Anthony Goncalves added two hits.

Bubba Jasinski had three RBIs on a two-run homer and a sacrifice fly.

Neumann jumped ahead 4-0 in the second and made it 5-0 in the bottom of the third before Jasinski got MU on the board with a two-run homer.

Down 6-2, Slanovec lead off the sixth inning with a double and came around to score on Brian Verdelli's single.

Nate Newman singled to lead off the eighth inning and Slanovec and Nate Hamlin followed with singles to load the bases.

Jasinski's sacrifice fly made it 6-4 and MU got within one on Jamie Philippi's RBI-double.

Justin Shuleski absorbed the loss for the Cougars. Ron Guido, Ryan Murray and Goncalves combined for four innings of shutout relief.

Misericordia, 7-2, will open its Freedom Conference schedule at King's, Friday at 3:30.
