The Misericordia University softball opened the season Sunday with a split at the Rebel Spring Games.
After dropping the opener to 11th-ranked Coast Guard, 2-0, the Cougars gave Jen Probst her first career head coaching victory with a 9-0 win over Wittenberg.
Kat Lucenti took the loss against Coast Guard. She struck out five while scattering four hits.
Gina Urbon and
Courtney Novajosky had hits for the Cougars.
Lucenti and
Caitlin Cromley combined on a three-hitter against Wittenberg with Lucenti earning the win.
Jillian Castaldi had a three-run triple and Cromley added an RBI-double.
Maggie Hoskins had a pinch-hit double.
The Cougars will face Marietta and Carthage, Monday afternoon.
